THE WEATHER.
The weather, which was very mild on Mon- : day, broke suddenly yesterday forenoon, when a' violent sfcorm of wind and rain Jbursb on Dunedin. *Tlie wiud. raised clouds of, dust, and is said to have lifted one pedestrian bodily in the air, but it speedily died away. Heavy showers of rain fell,.however, at intervals during' the day, and the weather' was very cold, ' snow falling on the heights round the city. ■ ■ '" Our Ophir correspondent writes:— No rain. s whateve- has fallen in the Blacks district &• lately ; in fact it is uea,rlyl2 months since any k rain of consequence has fallen. The .weather ,~ at present is extremely warm." 8 A correspondent writes from Wurawte sfcatiue that the total raiefall there in July was 0 9in,and in August l'Bia. Since the beginning of the year-in 8 ■ months-6:76in only have fallen, this being a record even for Waife mate, and the total for tho past 12 months is 10 very little more. . :
