SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETINGS.
Tile Albany street School Coramifctse meb last night; present—Me33rs Dickson (chairman), Walker (secretary), A. T. Anderson, Mf.t'aieson, Wilkinson, Thompson, and G. J. i Anderson. The Head Master reported : : " Attendance roll—Boys, 369 ; girls, 399 ;— total, 768. Average—Boys, 336; girls, 362 ;— total, 698. Highest attendance on any half day, 704-. Savings bank bnUace to date, £M 2 17s 9d." The committee granted the use of the G/muasiurn Hall to tha teachers and pupils for their annual aoeial. Accouats amounting to £1* were passed for payment. The Lawrence District High School Committee sent a circular re the present unsatisfactory representation of tho school districts ou the Education Board. The circular was referred to the ,; Schools Committees' Conference. Aa apology j was received from Mr Turner (a member of i committee) for his absence, and also asking for I the committee's approval of his action in pro- ! curiug more hedge plants for the navr infanc i room fence. The apology was accepted aud i the action endorsed. It was resolved that the • secretary write to the Educatiou Board asking ! ib to saiiotiou half tha cost of. dressing rooms : and stage for the gyniuasiutn ; tho co3t not to j exceed £70 ; Mr A. T. Anderson in the meantime to prepare a plan; Messrs A. T. Aadersoii, Dicksou, aud Walker to wail; on the board in support of the application. Ib was dscided to co-operate with the Kaikorai School Committee re an annual entertainment by Instructor Smith's pupils. The Caversham School Committee held its monthly meeting last evening, when all the members were pre3ent, Mr 'Pennant being in the chair. The Uiuai routine business was transacted. The penny savings bank returns showed that the amount lodged hi tha bank foe the i mouth was £9 Is 7d, and that total deposits amounted to £63 10s. The number of accounts was 335. T&8 Gjmnasiuoi Committee met ! afterwards, and made arrangements for canvassing the district to^subscri2)oioii!i. Tte monthly meeting of tha Macaudrew road School Committee was held last evening, Mr Tavemer being i;i the chair. The Head Mister reported the number oa the roll to bo : —Boys, 233; girls, 232. The average attendance for the month was: Boys, 212; girls, 204-. It was decided to establish a aaviugs bank in connection with the school, and Mr G. W. Smith and two of the staff were appointed to take this matter in charge. It was decided to write to the Education Board pointing out the advisability of erecting a gymnasium for the use of the schools on and aroand tb.B Flat, as the building of one gymnasium for each school would be very expsntive. A circular was received from the Lawrence School Ccyamifctee aaking for the o|rinion of the committee on the question of. dividing the Ocago education district into electorates, one person to represent each electorate. This, tho Lawrence Committee thought, would secure a fairer represbucaciou tb.au at present obtained. They also stated their opinion that it would ba better if the members to the Educatiou Boacd were elected by the ] householders, aud not by the members of the school corimittees. The comro.itt.se concurred in the opinions expressed by t!ie Lawrence Conimiteee. Messrs Craig aud Devlin were appointed the Visiting Commisceafor the ensuing month.
