UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Council of ths Otago University was held in tha board room, Education Offices, yesterday afternoon, there , being present—Tha Chancellor (Mr Justice Williams), the Vice-chancellor (Mr B. B. Cargill), Professors Shar.d, Sale, Rev. A. Cameron, Drs Hockeo, Burns, Mr J. Allen, M.H.8., and Mr i>. White, M.A. FINANCE. The report oE the Finacca Committee was to the efiecti fchab ths bank balance was £74-6 83 4d, and accounts had been passed amounting '00 £689 7s lid. A requisition from the School oE Mines -was forwarded for consideration, with a request that it be allowed far next session. The committee agreed to reply to Mr G-. Button's request re fencing in the university endowment that the council pay half tha cost (£8). Ths committee recommended the council to pass the requisition for materials for the School cf Mines for nest sassion. An application for a return of half the college fees by a student who had changed his mind aud gone Horns after taking half the medical course, half the professors' fees having bsan received back by him, was referred to the council. Ths committee recommended that a room be placed at the disposal of Sir Aston as recommended by Profsssor Blank. Tho committee also approved of Dr Scott's requisition for a cisl: of methylated spirits for the School of Medicine. —The report was adopted, aud the council decided to decline to grant the application for the return of fees. LUNACI" FESS. The Committes of the Council reported as follows : " Your cbmmittes have considered the matter of the amount of the fee to be piid by the students for the courne 01 instruction in luu&cy, and, having carefully gone into the matter and considered the letters and recommendations on. the subject, beg to report that they still think the fee atntad in the last University Caleudar (£3 3a) should be the fee, and that the fees should be immediately collected from the students and paid over without further delay." After a short conversational discassion Mr White moved, as an amendment —'■' 'Chat onehalf the fee 9be paid by the university and the other by the students." The amendment was negatived and the rsport adopted. Tho council then went into committee to consider the draft of a bill dealing with its reserves. ■ .
