KOSLYN BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The regular meeting of the Rosiyn Borough Council wes held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr Liddell), Crs Begg, Scott, ■ Wedderspoon, Watson, Kemnitz, Drew, Sim, Paterson, Wilson, Sutherland, and Philp. CORRESPONDENCE. The Treasury department notified that £I*o 12s 6d had been remitted to the credit of the t borough's account. Mr J. R. Sinclair wrote that a drain iv Nevada was still blocked up, aud thafc no attempt had been made to clear it.—Received.

Mr L. Wright wrote asking for permission to ta.ke a few loads of sand from the reserve, and wished to know what royalty was required.—■ Resolved that ls 6d a load be charged.

Mr James Hume, Ashburn Hall, wrote notifying his intention to fence land adjoining the district road, from the Main North Taieri road to Mr Kedzlie's, and asked the council to clear the road.—Referred to tbe Works Committee.

.Five ratepayersin Clyde street.wrote drawing attention to the bad state of tbe footpath ou tbe north side of the street. —Referred to the Works Committee.

Mr G. T. Bain wrote asking the council to Widen the road opposite sections 1 and 2, Beath's subdivision, as h? wished to fence.— Referred to the Works Committee.

The Finance Committee recommended fchat accounts amounting to £107 3s 7d be passed for payment, and reported that the bank overdraft stood at £732.—Adopted.

Tha Works Committee recommended that the letter from Mr Hall giving the area of laud to be purchased from the Dunedin Sinking Fund Commissioners bo received; that Mr H. Poole's request to have the asphalt path in City road widened at his shop be granted: tbao the request.of Mr E. A. Smith to have a ditch filled in and a path formed fronting section 14, Kirkland Hill, be complied with, and thafc the footpath in front of his house he kerbed and channelled on the usual terms—viz., that he pay half cost; that the owner of section 28, Hawthorndale, bo notified to dear therefrom the growth of gorse and broom within a month from the date of notice, and, failing compliance, the council carry out the work and charge ths said owner with all cost incurred; that the clerk be instructed to reply to the Christchurch Gas Company, iv answer to their circular, that the council does not require any tar at present, hut may send an order at some future time ; that the tender of Mr W. A deputation' from theDuuediu and Kaikorai Tram Company waited on the council to ask them to acquire certain ground under the Public Works Act for the purpose of constructing a tram line. After the deputation had explained the matter, it.wp.s carried, on the motion of Cr Kemnitz:—" That this council are prepared to take the ground through the property.of the Pwsbjterian Church Board, say, to a width of 40ft, under the provisions of the Public Workß Act; the Tramway Company agreeing to indemnify this ouueii against any expenses the council may be put to. Further, that this cauncil take the signatures of the chairman and two of the directors of the Dunedin and Kaikorai Tramway Company as suffioienfc gi^rauteo for any amount for which the council may become liable under the provisions of the Public Works Act." The deputation also mentioned the ronto of the tram line down the West Taieri Main road. It was suggested that if possible it wonld be well to take the Kaikorai line along the north side of the West Taieri Main road, instead of on the south side as shown on the plan.—}t was resolved—" That tbis council agree to the line proposed and Bhown on the plan by the Dunediu and Kaikorai Tramway Company, on the West Taieri Main road."
