OUR VOLUNTEERS.
On Saturday afternoon the Dnnedin Navals concluded their series of competitions for prizes presented by Lieutenant-commanding Alien, Lieutenants Logan and Strong, and Messrs Hyamg, Gibson, Watson, Hallenstein Bros., Mackerras and Hazlett, and U.S.S. Company, The conditions were 10 shots at 200 and 500 yards and 300 and 500 yards alternately; four matches, best three to count. The foliowin-*' were highest on Saturday in each class, ranges 300 and 500 yards, 10 shots at each .-.—

• The annual match Members v. Ex-members of the North Dunedin Rifles was fired at the Pelichet Bay range on Saturday afternoon, when the present corps defeated the ex-members by 27 points. The weather was good for shooting atthe first range,* but the light- somewhat failed at. the 500 yards, rendering the shooting mnch more difficult...- Great interest wsb manifested throughout, and manyold: members visited the range. The principal feature of the match was the excellent shootingof the colonial shot Volunteer Richardson and Volunteer Pollock. The ranges were,2oo and 500 yardß; seven shots nt each; one sigbter allowed. Two' men on each side used the Martini, the others firing with Snider 3, but the majority of the exmembers used the long Snider. A most enjoyable afternoon was epent, and at the conclusion cheers were,called by Captain Myers and exLieutenant Pell for the respectiv&Bides.!
