EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS.

The quarterly returnß of attendance for the period ended March 31, which bave beon compiled by the secretary to the Education Board, show fch&fc there were 206 schools in operation in fche district, employing 214 male and 292 female teachers, besides 24 teachers of sewing. The number of pupils on the school rolls at fche beginning of tho quarter wss 21,297, and at the end of fche quarter 22,919— comprising 11,858 boys and 11,061 girls. The strict average afcfcendanoe was 10.215 boys and 9454 girls, making a total of 19,669—being 16 leas than the total for the previous quarter and 545 more than fchat for the corresponding quarter of 1894. The working average was 101 more thanthesfcricfcaverage—viz.,l9,77o,— being an increase of 18 on the total for the previous quarter, and an increase of 536 on that for the corresponding quarter of 1894. The working overage is the highest recorded in this district. The averages in the Dunedin and suburban schools were:—Kaikorai 785, Albany street 725, George street 718, Normal 659, Hieh street 642, Caversham 572, Arthur street 520, Macandrew road 519, Union street 512, North". East Valley 492, Forbury 490, Mornington 469, Kensington 393, Ravensbourne 215, Anderson's Bay 124.
