CITY POLICE COURT.
Wednesday, March, 13.' (Before Jlessrs R. Watson and J. E. J.Ps.) Lahceny.—An elderly man .named John Lewis to charged with stealing a tablecloth (value 15s) and an overcoat (value £2) from the Terminus Hotel.—Accnsed pleaded guilty.—Detective .O'Connor stated that on Monday,;4th ibst., a tablecloth was stoleu from the Terminus Hotel, and on Thursday last it was found that1, accused stole the overcoat from the-same place. It was subsequently elicited that he bad also t.ken the tablecloth and had pawned it. • He was arrested on the previous day on board a steamer.leaving for Syduey. He was a stranger here, and J the police knew nothing against .him.—Mr Goldsmith, licensee of the hotel, said he did net wish to press the. charge —In answer to the bench, accused said he was 57 years of age.—Their Worships, taking iuto consideration the age of tbe accused and the fact, that there was nothing known against him, decided to. deal leniently with him and sentenced him to seven days' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative.,
