TARIFF COMMISSION.

Tho memoes of 1b.9 Tariff Commission visited tie Roslyn Woollen and Worsted Mills yeeterdny morning. They were driven to tho Kaikorai Vulley by Mr Glendining, who courteously showed thorn, over tho whole of the establishment nnd explained tho method of manufacture of various articles. The commissioners were highly plowed with all they saw in the mills.

Subsequently the commissioners went to Hessr3 J. Bayley and Co.'s tannery at Barnside, and after inspecting tho factory they took tho evidenco of Mr John Bayley, who complained of some anomalies in the leather manufacture. He slated that while certnin manufactured leathers, which could be mado in the colony, were admitted practically freo, other leathers in tho rough state wero charged duty. He asked that this anomaly should ba removed, and that tho imported leathers should bo charged a higher duty to encourage the making of such leathers ia tho colony. Tlm commisaionar9 then visited tho Otago Iron Rolling Mill Company's premises at Green Island, and iv the afternoon they visited M'Leoil Brothers' soap works, J. W.
