By the slip which occurred at the Makohine viaduct yesterday morning it appears Mrs Qumlivan, her three children, and her niece were buried. The viaduct is some II miles beyond Hunterville. The material taken out of the cutting forming the approach is thrown down the bankf and this stuff slipped and buried beneath it the wite of Thomas Quinlivan and her three children, and the child of P. Quinlivan. The men are navvies at work on the line. A huudred men were at once put upon the work of rescue, and the dead bodies of Mrs Quinlivan and two children were recovered. There is no hope that the other children can be alive. Mrs Quinlivan's children and niece were swinging on a tree near the road, when Mrs Quinlivan, who was inside the house heard a crackling in the trees on the slope above them, and the children screaming. An eyewitness says that when the mother reached the door she saw a large slip coming down upon the children, and immediately ran to their rescue. Beiore she could reach them they were buried by the tremendous ruah of dibris, and Mrs Quinlivan was struck by a falling tree and covered several feet by the soil.
