NotwithstandiDg the heavy rain and 'boisterous weather, there was a good attendance at the Agricultural and Pastoral Society's'show. I The display of sheep was not so large as last year, but the quality was considered by the judges to be excellent. There were no exhibits m this class from outside the district. Messrs Kelson Brothers' special prize for the best pen of wethers suitable for freezing was won by E. Murphy. Mr P. Doimel was the largest prizetaker in sheep. la horses there were 178 entries. Mr Barren's Hnicatere obtained first prize for thoroughbred entire, and Billincs^ate second. There was a big entry of hacks, draught, and carriage horses. The cattle shown were mostly shorthorns, with a few Alderney. In bacon, hams, cheese, aud buster there were many exhibits, which show that increased attention is being paid to small farming pursuits by ths settlers of the district.
