In the Appeal Court, in Piripi te Maori v. Stewart and Co., the court delivered judgment this morning, reversing the decision of the Chief Justice, and holding that a statement in Maori of contents of the deeds was required, by " The Native Land Act 1873,1' to be endorsed on the deed before its execution by the Natives. The court hr»s adjourned until Monday morning.
Two young men, named Thomas Palmer and Jamo3 Fallas, were to-day committed for tiial on a charge of violently assaulting and robbing John George Duhig, schoolteacher, of Blenheim.

The committee of the I^ew Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night reinstated Mc-s-srs Barford (Cbristchurck), Cherry, Hs.v. llice (Dune:'.in), Pearse, JPurgess, JSWei-iy" '(Auckland), and Orr (Ashburcon) ; and also decided to hold a supper next. Monday to coiebralo the return of the New Zealand athletic team from England.
At a meeting "convened |by the Mayor of Christchurch for the purpose of forming a central committee to raise funds for a statue to Sir H. Atkinson, the Mayors of Sydenhara, St. Albaiis, and chuirmfcii of neighbouring town and road boards attended. It was decided to leave it to the local bodies to send in what each can raise in their respective districts.
