The Waimate Times' Glenavy correspondent writes stating that the lish in the Waitaki river arc improving in condition, and every day brings its fresh contingent of visi:.:;-s. There are now about half a dozen boats to be seen at the mouth, and as some of the owners are nearly always about, very few persons will be disappointed from crossing the lagoon. The Marlborough Times states that one night recently the whole bay at Picton was apparently dive with herring or pilchard, when a school of porpoises appeared unon the scene in pursuit, driving the (mormons"shoals of fish up the lagoon and on to the beach. Upon the tide receding- tons lish were lining the bay and lagoon, whilst unknown quantities were blown out of the harbour by the strong south-easter.
