ROYAL ITALIAN OPERA COMPANY.

Considerable interest is being manifested in the forthcoming appearance of the Royal Italian Opera Company. Their performance of grand opera 3cenas and selections in concert form has, from all accounts, excited unusual enthusiasm all throughout their northern tour, and all seem to agree that the combination of rmviicai stars is the strongest which has ever appeared ia this colony. The presence of the company in this part of the world is dve1 primarily to the public spirit and enterprise of a number of connoisseurs and leading citizens of Melbourne, who subscribed LSOOO aud commissioned Madame Simousen to proceed to/Italy and pick from the grand opera houses of that acknowledged home of song a company of representative artistes of the first rank. This task was accomplished 'with signal success, and the year's season recently completed in 'Melbourne,' Adelaide, and Sydney was the most prosperous on record. To Messrs Jinkins aud Middloton the New Zealand public are indebted for the opportunity of hearing these great singers before they return to Italy, which they soon must do, ;md in consequence of which the Duuedin season is limited to four nights. On all hands it has been freely admitted that their singing is a positive revelation. Tho sccnas and selections for the first performance, which will be given at the Princess Theatre on Monday evening next, will be from " Traviata," "Carmen," "Ilßarbiere," "Don Giovanni," " Mignon," "Ernani," "Faust," liNorma," and l! Lucia." Tho series will be limited to four, and will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week. There will bo a complete change at each pecfonnanee. The box p!an for each is now open at the Dresdeu Company's.
