WANGANUI J.G. MEETING. Wanganui, October 20. The Wanganui J.C. Spring meeting was commenced to-day. The weather in the morning was threatening, but the rain held off uutil night, and a good day's sport was obtained. The course never looked better, and the many improvements whl&o were highly appreciated. The racing on the whole was good, though, it resulted in a general boil over, outsiders turning up trumps all day—the only moral justifying expectations being Torpedo in the Flying. The Derby resulted in the victory of the remotest outsider. Opinion was pretty evenly divided between Wyvern, Variety, and King John; but nobody thought of St. Katherine, who fairly romped home. Parados showed wonderful improvement on her previous form, winning both her events from start to finish. Dr Earl, the new judge, gave satisfaction. The attendance was not so good as usual. About L 3500 .was pub through the totalisators. Results: — SPRING HANDICAP, Of 60sovs. One mile aud a distance. Mr J. Marumaru's Rangipuhi, by Tene — Mystery Girl, 6.9 ... .:. ... (Hall) 1 Mr C. A. From a good start Blusket forged ahead closely followed by She and Patience, the former assuming command going round the back stretch. Coming round the home turn Rangipuhi and Torpedo went up to the leaders. She broke dowu, Rangipubi taking her place. Entering the straight Musket came up on the inside, but could not get through, and when fairly in the straight a grand race ensued between Rangipuhi and Musket, but the son of Tene carried too many guns for the grey and landed the stake by a neck, Daisy Clipper a length away. Time, 2min 3sec. Dividend, L 7 15s. HANDICAP HURDLES, Of lOOsovs. Two miles and a distance. Mr J. Kennedy's Paradox, by Patriarch— Pirera 912 (Cook) 1 Mr X Boyle's Aorere, 10.S (Gilpin) 2 Mr Donnelly's Kainianawa, 10.10 ...(Redmond) 3 Haven, Gladius, lilukem, and Hiainoe also ran. Paradox jumped off with the lead, followed by Flukem and Kaimanawa with Aorere fourth. This order was maintained until coining round the home bend, when the field closed up, Gladius and Raven coming forward. Going round the back Aorere supplanted Flukem, but could not get ou terms with the leader, who won with something to spare by a length, two lengths separating second and third. Time, 4-uiin 17 3 ssec. Dividend, L 7 17s. HACK HURDLES, Of SOsovs. One mile and a-quarter. Mr C. Woodley's Sister, 9.7 ... (Higgins) 1 Mr J. Godson's Bredshaw ... (Holmesi 2 Mr N. Passing the stand the order was : King John, Wyvern, St. Katherine, Repeater, Variety. Spinfeldt, aud Monte Carlo last. The lender took his field along at a merry pace until the back of the course, when St. Katherine supplanted him, M'Kenzie at the same time briugiug up his mount. Round the bend Variety was fast overhauling the leader, but once in the straight it was clear that St. Katheriue had things all her own v?ay, and sho romped b nne an easy winner by two lengths, the s.r.ie distance separating second aud third horses ; King John, Wyvern, and Repeater coming in the order named.
