[ RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. Our Christchurch correspondent telegraphs ■— s An excellent morning saw Cutts first out with ; Dudu, Cruchfield, and others, 'doing threequarter pace work. Launceston amd Captive r traveUed five furlongs at'top, Captive having i all the best of it. Winchman, the Adulation colt, and the Bribery filly, were given a fast five-furlong gallop. Kulnine and Clanranald were sent a mile and a-quarter at top, Kulnine having all the best, of the gallop. Crackshot, with Derrett up, covered a mile and a-quarter at a good pace. It is evidently now meant to have a try with Crackshot at the CJC Autumn meeting, but he does not look weU at all, and his off hind leg has been badly cut Diadem and May went once round, and came home fast over six furlongs, and Ahua did useful work twice round. Erin-go-Bragh and Lady Sockburu negotiated a mile at top, and afterwards cantered a circuit. Vogengang compassed a double, spurting twice over six furlongs, while Wanganui traversed a mile at I nearly top. Rocket and Tassy went at top over seven furlongs. Missile cantered a circuit, and came up the straight at top. A number of other horses did haU'-pace and cantering work. FOOTBALL. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union Mr George Fisher, M.H.R., was elected president, Dr Newman and Mr J Duthie, M.H.R.'s, and Messrs BeU and Gully vice-presidents, Mr D. Skinner treasurer, and Mr J. H. Hyams secretary. It was decided that in future the management committee shall consist of one delegate from each senior club and two delegates to represent junior clubs. The question of establishing a New Zealand Rugby Union and the sending of a New Zealand team to Australia was deferred for a week. The whole of the correspondence relating to the southern tour of the local men last season wiU be laid before a meeting next week. At a meeting of the Wellington Racing Club the disqualification of Messrs Yuille, Nathan, and May by the Wanganui Jockey Club was deferred pending the final decision of the latter on the subject. The question of caretaker was relegated to the Course Committee. A deputation from the Horse Owners' Association of Christchurch waited on the Colonial Secretary at Wellington a day or two ago and complained that some proprietary clubs were not complying with the rules of racing in regard to devoting the profits.of their meeting to increase §takes, &c, and asking that the permission of such clubs to use the totalisator be withheld. The Hon. Mr Buckley replied that he could not see his way to do this, as applications for the totalisator. were referred to the senior magistrate of the district from which they came, and his opinion was acted upon. Auckland is losing two of her best cricketers in J. T. Howlett aud A. M. Beale, the former returning to Melbourne and the latter leaving for Gisborne.
