Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report:—We held our usual fortnightly stock fair and horse sale at the laiuri yards yesterday. There was a large gathering of buyers and dealers • present from Taieri, Tokomairiro, and Dunedin. Competition throughout the sab was spirited, nnd shcop, cattle, and horses found buyers at satisfactory prices.
Shcop.—!io3 were penned, all crossbreds, consisting of four and six-tooth wethers and ewes, c.ght-toot.h ewes, and two-tooth wethers and ewes. A number of buyers were present, and had there been, twice as many sheep forward, they could readily have been placed. Four and six-tooth crossbred wethers sold at 9s; four and six-tooth do ewes, 9s; two-tooth wethers and ewes (small), os 3d.
Cattle —112 head were yarded, nearly aU wellgrown bullocks and heifer., and a few pens of medium sorts. There was a fair demand, and bidding, except for the smaller cattle, was brisk, nearly every pon being placed at, for best bullocks, Lbto L 5 ss; medium do, L 4 15s to L 3 ss; heifers, Lo 10s to L 2 5s ; c-,«ws, L 3 10s to L 2. Horses.—32 were entered for sale, most of them medium draughts, and a few light harness horses. lor good sound medium draughts, suitable for harvest work, there was a good demand, and several wore place. 1 at satisfactory prices. For good hacks there was also a good deniaud, and nearly all enteivd were sold. Aged and-inferior were not 111 request, and only a few changed hands. We quote:—Good draughts, Ll6 to L 18; medium do, L.ll to Lls; aged and inferior,. L 5 to LJI; good useful hacks, Ll2 to Lls; medium, L 8 10s t-j Lli; aged and inferior, L 4 to LO.
