THE PREMIER IN AUCKLAND.
(Per United Press Association.)
Auckland, December 15. During aii interview between the Premier and tho Auckland Liberal Association, one of the members, fllr Jennings, asked Mr Ballance whether, if it were the desire of the colony, he would be willing to recommend to the Imperial authorities that Sir George Grey bo appointed Governor of New Zealand. Mr Ballance replied, " Certainly, I would." This morning Sir George Grey and Mr Jackson Palmer interviewed the Premier with regard to a bonus granted to an Auckland firm for the manufacture of 500 tons of salt. They complained that tho bonus was likely to be claimed by a Sydney firm. The Hon. Jlr Ballance said that no promise of a bonus was given to any Sydney firm, and in order to ensure that it would be received by the Auckland manufacturers, the regulations under which it hud been given would he gazetted at once. A deputation of master bakers, introduced by Jlr Shera, pointed out to Mr Ballance that the provision of the Adulteration Prevention Act Amendment Act requiring certain conditions for the weighing of bread are unworkable. The Premier asked them to put their views in writing, and promised that they would be considered by the Government.
