PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The regular fortnightly meeting of tho above council was held yesterday evening, and attended by the Mayor (Mr E. G. Allen), Crs Watson, sen., Bolton, Pedlow, Fail, Chick, Mitchell, Watson, jud., end Perry. Me Robert Bolton, having signed the usual declaration, took his Beat as councillor for East Ward. Mr William Watson wrote asking that his name be placed on the burgess roll.—Referred to tho town clerk. The Secretary of the Benevolent Institution wrote forwardiug an application for relief. As the applicant resided iv the Waikouaiti district the clerk was instructed to acknowledge the communication, and state that the couucil had no jurisdiction in tho matter. An application to remit rates due on the property of a widow was referred to the Finance Committee. EEPOHTS. ■ The Finance Committee recommended that sundry accounts amounting to £102 7s C.i be passed for payment. They further reported the state of funds in bank to be as follows: — Debit general account, £706 5s Id; credit water account, £192 IS3 sd, being a debit of £513 63 8d; accounts to pay. £102 7a 6d, making a total debit of £615 14s 2d. The receipts since lost meeting amounted to £147 03 4d.—Adopted. The Works Committee reported that cince January 30, the inspector Etid^assistant had been principally engaged cleaning out the main channels, and carting away the refuse, fiuishicg and cleaning out the sewer, and have done some asphalting for Mr Nelson, also tarring and sanding some r.sphait recently laid, sud at footpath top of Mary street. At present 6cme asphalting wns being dons at Mr John Peterson's, and since last meeting some alterations had been made at the old Fire Brigade station to receive the new water cart. GENERAL. Cr MiTcnnLL moved, and Cr Watson, jun., seconded—" That as the corporation have now no appliances for supplying vessels lying in the stream with water, the tariff of rates for same be cancelled."—Carried.

Cr Bolton was appointed to the Finance, Reserves and Cemetery Committees.
