MISTRESS AND MAID.
TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—lt was with very great pleasure that I read the Rev. Mr Yoika's latter on this subject iv your issue of this morning, and I am truly gUd to see that he is backing up Mr Waddell's idea of " elevating this branch of employment (i.e., domestic service) into something of the dignity of Bkilled labour." Depend upon it something oc this sort would be a move in the right direction. If the status of the young woman, who cooks our rnea's and does bo much to contribute to our comfort, could ba raised, then many of our respectable men's daughters would take to service instead of crowding to those hotbeds of corruption—the factories of the city; and in timo a raore healthy tone would pervade the homes 01 our artisans, where women trained to domestic work would occupy the position of wife and mother.—l am, &c, North-East Valleyi July 17. Passim.
