THE CALIFORNIA THISTLE.
TO THE EDITOK. Sir,—lf lam not mistaken, a California Thistle Act wss passed some three or four years ago with a view of eradicating the pest. How are the inspectors carrying out the provisions of the act? In tho Blueskin district there are acres of thistles which Eeem to me to have been allowed to flourish for years past, and tht3 season have bloomed and the seed wafted broadcast in all directions.
I would not trouble you. Sir, but knowing from experience, the dire calamity these thistles have cause 1 in. Tasmania, where, land that was worth £10 and £20 per acre becimo not only valueless but a burden upon the owner in complying with the provisions of the act, I ask space in your columns to point out the fact that unless the inspectors do thtir duty some of the finest land in New Zealand will soon become worse than valueless.—l am, &a., April 23.
