THE TROTTING DISPUTE.

TO THK ItDJTOR. Sir,—l see that the Canterbury Trotting Association intend placing all trotting events throughout New Zealand under their own special care and protection. This must be a uod»,end to the Dunedin Jockey Club, who have lately shown a thorough and utter inciinpotenoy in dealing with-trots, even if the incident involved is simplicity itself. Ido not believe that there are a dozen disinterested men in New Zealand who know anything about racing and possessed of ordinary intelligence, but could settle the trotting dispute now before the club in 10 minutes. Why the Dunedin Jockey Club has not done so is a matter of everyday comment, ridicule, and sneers It is no good denying the fact that something more than incompetenoy is broadly hinted at, and that the Supreme Court has been resorted to In the hope that, by some quirk of the law, a verdict may be obtained contrary to what the decision would be in any raciug trihunal in tho world. I have always held tha highest opinions of tho stewards of the Dunedin Jockey Club, and believe that all decisions have been fair and honest. It is to bo hoped they will talie 3teps to clear themselves from tho rumours that are floating in Ihe air. You will see by my card that I have nothing to do with the stewards of the Dunedin Jockey Club. I am not interested in the remotest degree, direclly or indirectly, in thepreBent dispute.—l am, &c, Duaedin, April 29. Ruby.
