NEW ZEALAND GRAND MASONIC LODGE.

The first communication of the Now Zealand Grand Masonic Lodge was opened iv St. Augustine Hall to-night. There was a large attendance, representing all parts of the colony. The following occupied official positions in the Grand Lodge I'or tho evening:—Acting graud master, R.W. Bro. E. T. Gillon (Wellington); D.G.M. Bro. Vincent Pyke (Dunedin); senior warden, Bro. Do Renzy (Dunediu); junior warden, Bro. Hami.feoTi' .Wellington); senior deacou, Bro. Walkley (Palmerston); junior deacon, Bro. Symons (Auckland); grand treasurer, Bro. Kirton (Feilding); secretary, Bro. Geo. Robertrion (Wellington); pursuivant, Bro. Lindsay (Wellington); grand sword-bearer,*Bro. George Fisher (Wellington). Proclamation of the opening of tho Grand Lodge was made by K.W. Bro. R. 0. Bishop. The brethren present theu confirmed the election of R.W. Bro. 11. Thompsou as firsfc grand master. The Executive Committee presented a report detailing the steps taken to establish the Grand Lodge. The report was received, aud the basis of union recommended by the convention provisionally accepted, subject to further consideration aud adoption by the Grand Lodgo. It was decided to substitute "provincial" for "district" grand lodges, and to increaso tho number of stewards to 20.

Resolutions were adopt d establishing boards of general purposes and benevolence, securing the continuance of acquired rank, and appointing a committee consisting of Bros. Gillon, Hamilton, and Robertson, to draft tho constitution.. The question of clothing and jewels waS referred to the Board of General Purposes. Tho salary of the grand secretary was' fixed at £250 per annum.
