(Received June 11, at 9.E0 p.m.) At a meeting of the Royal Colonial Institute yesterday Mr Hubert de Castella, the well-known Victorian winegrower, who is at present visiting England, read a paper on Australian wines. Earl Carnarvon, in eulogising the paper, declared a "close union between the colonies and England was a matter of necessity, but thought it desirable that the first advances in that direction should be left to the colonies. A DIVIDEND. June 14. (Received June 15, at 1.35 a.m.) The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's half-year's dividend is 10 per cent. THE HOME RULE AGITATION. The publicans are not making' any attempt to have the clauses reinstated. The temperance party, and Unionist Liberals hope to prevent the excision of the Sunday trading clauses. MINISTERIAL CRISIS IN BULGARIA. ' .. Sofia, June 14. ' (Heceived June 14, at 1.05 p.m.) M. Stambouloff, Premier, has resigned, owing to disunion in the Cabinet. ■ The cause of the disagreement between Ministers is said to have arisen over the recent sentence imposed upon M. Popoff, one of the ex-regents, who was convicted of embezzling Government moneys. Prince Ferdinand is not disposed to accept the resignation of the Premier. . ■■ :

(Received June H, at 10.40 a.m.) The Emigration Society intend sending Mr Payton to the colonies to inquire into the prospects, of their co-operating with the society in despatching immigrants. THE LOCAL GOYEENMENT BILL. In the House of Commons Mr Ritchie gave notice that the Government, in view of the state of public business and the strenuous opposition to the provisions, had decided to withdraw the licensing clauses from the Local Government Bill, . THE FIRE ON BOARD THE ESSEX. The fire on board the Essex at Aden has been subdued. REORGANISING THE ADMIRALTY. In the House of Commons Mr Jennings moved that a reorganisation of the Admiralty was necessary. He thought that in the public interests it was injurious to have forced on the department officials who afterwards became burdens. Lord G. F. Hamilton's amendment, suggesting the employment of redundant officials in other branches, was negatived, and the motion carried by a majority of 13. MR STANLEY'S RELIEF EXPEDITION IN STRAITS. Letters have been received from Major Barlettot, commander of Stanley's reserve, stating that they are short of provisions and his followers are dying. He implores that relief be sent without delay. NEW ZEALAND SCRIP AT A PREMIUM. New Zealand scrip is quoted at 2} premium.

(Deceived June 14, at 12.30 p.m.) Professor Stanisch, of Sydney, claims to have discovered a remedy for phylloxera. THE A.M.P. SOCIETY. At the meeting of the Australian Mutual Provident Society an amendment to the report was carried, disagreeing with the proposed officers' provident fund. The directors have been requested to test the legality of the pensions now being granted to officers, and a ballot of all the members is to be taken on the question. NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS. The Legislative Council have passed the Chinese Restriction Bill. They have also carried a motion protesting against the Imperial veto of the Divorce Bill. In the Legislative Assembly tho new Divorce Bill has been read a third time. A COLLISION AT NEWCASTLE. Newcastle, June 14. < Received Juno 14, at 9.30 p.m.) The steamer Nemsea collided with the ship Galatea in the harbour last night. The bridge, funnel and lifeboat of the steamer wero smashed, the hull damaged, and the mainmast carried away. The stern of the ship was twisted, and several plates were 'news prom kimbbrley. Perth, Juno 14. (Reoelved June 14, at 12.30 p.m.) Favourable news has been received from the Kimberley goldfields, and some very rich stone has been taken from the Lady Broome reef. The blacks are, however, very troublesome, and their depredations are becoming serious.
