SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

The High street School.Committee met last evening. There were present Messrs Isaac (chairman;, Cameron, West, Watson, Mercen and Caradus. The head master reported the attendance for the month to be as follows: — Oii the rolls, 342 boys, 347 girls,—total 689 ; . average attendance, 316 boys, 315 girls,—total, 631. Tho secretary reported that the net proceeds of the last school concert amounted to £3 3s 6d. Professor Oscar David wrote regarding tho advisability of encouraging physical culture in the school. He pointed out that a start could be made with an expenditure of about £10 for apparatus. The children would have to pay a moderate fee for instruction. The letter was received, and the matter was referred.to the chairman, clerk, and Mr Park to report. G; Latimer's tender for wood and coal was accepted. The police reported that there-were 10 children of school age in the district who were not attending school. ■ The Lawrence District High School Committee held their usual monthly meeting,on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs Thomp-j son (in,the chair), Harrop, ArbucHe, Jeffery, M'lntosh, Copland, and Hetherington, secretary. A circular from the Bduoation Board asking the committee to arrange for holidays, so that the teachers may be able to attead the annual conference was left to the visiting committee, to arrange with the rector. The attendance was reported to ba as follows-.—Number on roll, 337; highest number present, 304; average, 291-5. Some small accounts were passed, and the! visiting committee were authorised to procure a giant's stride for the girls, and some chairs for the school. ■
