Wellington, January 11.

At the inquest on the body of the girl Lucy D&rrell, fouud drowned, the evidence showed she had simply been reprimanded by her father for staying oat late at night, and it is supposed this caused the rash act. The coroner remarked that he was afraid it was one of many cases of the early education found in these colonies, where boys and girls were allowed to run alone in such a mauuer that they got into all kinds of mischief, and if reproached, they turned round and took upon themselves the responsibilities of their actions aud declared their independence and self-reliance.
