Tauuanga, July 21. A fire broke out this evening in a building stored with sulphur from White Island, and the property of Mr Wilson, judge of the Native Land Court. It was suppressed. The origin of the fire is unknown.

Gold and silver have been proved to exist iv a large reef in the Te Puke district, and a test is being made as to whether the reef will prove payable.

Wellington, July 21. A proclamation in the Gazette declares the KurniadVc Islands tube part of New Zealand.

iNVERCAnoiLL, July 21. Robert Fraser was fined to-day for smuggling 131b of tobacco. He was detected on the Bluff wharf with the stuff iv his possession. It is supposed that he. was in league with someone yet. undiscovered. He pleaded guilty, but ducliueil to give the name of his confederate on the ground that that would bo dishonourable. Ho was fined £0 15s, and tho tobacco was confiscated.
