Tauuanga, July 21. A fire broke out this evening in a building stored with sulphur from White Island, and the property of Mr Wilson, judge of the Native Land Court. It was suppressed. The origin of the fire is unknown.
Gold and silver have been proved to exist iv a large reef in the Te Puke district, and a test is being made as to whether the reef will prove payable.
Wellington, July 21. A proclamation in the Gazette declares the KurniadVc Islands tube part of New Zealand.
The Government offer a free pardon and £100 reward for such evidence as will lead to the conviction of the persons implicated in the attempt to destroy the Excelsior wine vaults, Wellington, en the 2Sth Juno.
The frozen mutton which was on board the hulk Jubilee when she went ashore was this evening transferred to the steamer Kaikoura, which left for Lyttclton.
The residence of Mr E. Taylor, near Masterton, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday night. It was insured in the North British for £200, and the furniture for £50 iv the Northern office.
A forged cheque has been passed on Messrs Graves and Fleming, drapers, and the cheque has been found to have been {extracted from a book belonging to Mr Whitehouse, whose premises were recently entered by burglars. Captain Orr, master of the barque Peru, has been committed for trial on n charge of unlawfully rescuing a prisoner from Detective Chrystaliu April JSS2.

The bodies of James M'Grath and William Uullick, drowned in the Avon yesterday, were recovered this morning. At the inquest on Dr Gordon the evidence sh )wed that death had been caused by rupture of a bloodvessel in the lungs.
iNVERCAnoiLL, July 21. Robert Fraser was fined to-day for smuggling 131b of tobacco. He was detected on the Bluff wharf with the stuff iv his possession. It is supposed that he. was in league with someone yet. undiscovered. He pleaded guilty, but ducliueil to give the name of his confederate on the ground that that would bo dishonourable. Ho was fined £0 15s, and tho tobacco was confiscated.
