The total amount ' offered was £50,000. Tenders at £97 10s, ■ the minimum, receive 81 per cent, of allot- ■ ment, and tenders above that in full. J A CONSERVATIVE VICTORY. The election for the representation of the > Basingstoke division of Hampshire, vacant • by the elevation of Mr Sclater Booth to the i peerage, resulted in the return of ■Mr i Jeffreys, a Conservative candidate, who dci feated his opponent, Mr Eve, a Gladstonian, by a majority of 732. WARSHIPS IN COLLISION. A collision of a serious nature occurred yeaterday oft Portland between H.M. ships Ajax and Devastation. The latter was so badly damaged tliat she has been docked for repairs. THE ONION BANK'S DIVIDEND. July 20. (Heceived July 21, at 1.35 a.m.) I The Union Bank of Australia has declared a dividend for the past half-year at the rate of 12 por cent, per annum, and carries forward and places to reserve fund £15,000. THE NAVAL ESTIMATES. During* tho discussion in tho House of Commons on tho Naval Estimates, Lord Churchill repeated his charges of wasteful expenditure.
