Tlio Property will be purchased from the promoter for £1000: £600 to be paid in cash, 50 per cent of the calls being set aside for that purpose, and 50' per cent, for the construction of reservoirs and cutting of races. " The Property comprises 10 Acres of Land held under Mining Lease, together with all water rights, water races, tail races, dams, &c. It also includes all plant, buildings, smithy tools, sluice-boxes, mining tools, and all rights and appurtenances held inconurction with the property at this date. Garibaldi Diggings, or the ground adjoining the lease now offered to the public, is situate on the eastern «lope of the Bough Eidge Eange, at a point where the range divides, forming a large flat baßin having its outlet iri a gorge emptying into tfas G immerburn creek. It has been leng and favourably known as a rich alluvial goldfleld, with the one great drawback that for the greater portion of the year but very little water is available. In times past It lias paid well even to work with the cradle; later with sluice-boxes; and by the fortunate holders of the available water by whom the ground has been sluiced small fortunes have been made. When it is considered that for nine months in each year little or no remunerative work has been done, it is only reasonable to expect greater returns with more modern appliances and an expenditure such as is proposed by this Company in conserving the really flae supply of water to be obtained, but which hitherto has been allowed to run to vraste each sucoessive spring season, when the melting snow from ' the enormous watershed on top of the range comeß tearing down the gullies forming the several branches of the Gimmerburn. The Company proposeß, by the construction of store reservoirs at different levels, to command the present workings, also to take advantage of and increase the holding capacity of the innumerable natural lagoons on the top of the range, connecting one lngoon with another by small races, to retain a large body of water in reserve on the summit. The overflow from these and the drainage of the hills will be picked up from the gullies, and led (by enlarging the present head races) to the proposed store reservoirs adjoining the lease. Three sites for store reservoirs have been secured, two of these being very large, covering 11 and 12 acres respectively, and at a comparativaly small cost can be made capable of storing 16 million gallons of water each. The third proposed reservoir, which adjoins the lease, is of smaller dimensions, and can be fed by the larger ones when required. It will be Been that the one great drawback to the more continuous working of the ground will thus be removed, and it is confidently expected that sluicing operations on a more extensive scale may be continuously carried on for eight or nine months at least in each year. The total cost of improving the water supply is estimated, by a competent engineering authority as under:— ' Two large Btore reservoirs and races ... £1000 0 0 Smaller reservoir near lease» ... 150 0 0 Enlarging head races ... . ... 350 0 0 Increased holding capacity of natural lagoons on the top of range, and the connecting races ... ... 250 0 0 Deepening tail race ... ... 150 0 0 Piping ... ... ... 100 0 O Total ... ... ... £2000 0 0 It is not contemplated to construct both the large resetvoirs at the outset, as the one situate at the lower level, with its contingent race, may not be found necessary. This will reduce the ptoposed outlay by £500. The natural lagoons on the top need not be improved to their greatest capacity for some time. The first expenditure can be reduced to £100 (a saving of £150); and the tail race need not be deepened at present (a further reduction of £}50)— thus leaving the proposed expenditure at £1300, which will be sufficient to put the claim in working order. There is also a comparatively small reservoir constructed and used by the former ownerß of the lease, the holding capacity of which can be increased at a small cost. It may not be out of place here to say that it seems extraordinary that the original owners were content to work on year after year with such limited storing capacity for water when, during eight or nine menths in the year, with their own labour, they could have so easily improved matters in this respect. The only answer to be found to this is as now stated by themselves: that the shares were unequally held by them, and the smaller interests would not give their labour toward the improvement of the property under existing circumstances. The Property now offered to the public should, with efficient management and its improved water supply, prove one of the most remunerative alluvial mining claims in Otago. The last washing-up of the original ownerß, Boon after the sale by them of the property, it is understood gave about £300 per man for the season's work (about three months); so satisfactory, indeed, that the sum of £200 was offered by them to the buyer (who gave for it £1020) to relinquish his bargain. It is anticipated ;that after the first outlay of £1800—being £1300 on works and £500 on part purchase—the shareholders will not be asked to pay further calls, as the first season's work may be expected to yield sufficient to complete any additional extension of the storage works that may be found requisite. The proprietor will take 500 contributing share* in the company, 250 of which have been already applied for. Applications for Shares to be made to the Sooretary, Mr S. E. M'Carthy, solicitor, Naseby, accom--1 panied by P. 0.0., cheque, or draft for the amount due 011 application. J(emittances may, however, be sent direct to the Bank of New Zealand, Naseby. As the Claim is now in operation, the owner in willing to arrange with the provisional directors to recoup him for any outlay in labour or new plant since his last wnshihg-up, the Company of course in that case reaping the benefit of the gold obtained; or, failing such an arrangement, the Company could take [over after his next washing-up, the date of which enn be fixed. Thiß is nut a quartz venture—no reef lijib to be sought for, A large area of highly-payable auriferouh B wash is proved beyond a doubt, and the sole object of forming the Company is to bring more water on to the ground. 11 jy WANTED, THEATRICAL UANAGBBS »nd Other« to know that the Otago Daily Timea I nnderttkes the Foitlng ot Woodcuto (any iiie).
