MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An adjourned meeting of the above council was held in the Athenreum on Friday afternoon, when there were present—Mr P. Dey (mayor, in the chair), and Crs Leary, Murdoch, Smith, Aitken, Smeaton, and Hardie.
The Clerk intimated that Mr T. Collie had been elected to the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Cr Vanniui.—Cr Collie, after, signing the usual declaration, took his seat.
The Clerk then read over the minutes of the last meeting.
Cr Leaey at this stage of the proceedings brought under the council's notice that a motion had been carried by the council in September that no litigation be entered into without the consent of the council. He had failed to trace any such motion in the minute-book. ' The Clerk stated it must have been an omission on his part, as he recollected the motion being carried. The Mayob was surprised that Cr Leary had not noticed the matter sooner. However, the subject could be brought up again by notice of motion. The matter then dropped, and the minutes were adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Taieri County Council stating that that body had appointed Mr W. Snow as their representative on the Charitable Aid Board.—The council assented to the a»tjon taken. From the Manager Working Railways re obstructions in Dye creek on Outram railway.— To be seen to at once. From Messrs Duncan, Macgregor, and Webb (on behalf of Mr A. M'Killop) requesting the council to endorse the conveyances of certain land purchased from Mr A. J. Burns by Mr M'Killop.—Cr M'Kenzie moved and Cr Leaby seconded—" That the application be granted." Cr Murdoch moved as an amendment that the application be leftover for further consideration. The amendment was carried. GENERAL. The half-yearly balance sheet was read, with a footnote from the auditors certifying as to its correctness. It showed the liabilities up to September 30 to be £189 7s 3d, and assets £135 12s.—Cr Muhdoch would like to know what rates were still outstanding.—The Clerk stated that there was only some £5 or £S outstanding, and that it might come in any day.—The balance sheet was then adopted.—lt was moved by the MAYORandcarried —" That gravel be suppliedon the west side of Forfar street, between Lanark and Glasgow streets, under the council's byelaw for gravelling, &c." The clerk was appointed borough valuator at a remuneration.of £5 5s per annum. Accounts amounting to £6715s 4d were passed for payment. It was also decided that the dog registration fee remain at 10s. On the motion of Cr Mubdoch, seconded by Cr Smeaton, the tender of Mr M. O'Brien for gravelling—riz., Larnach street, lid per yard; Church street, Is 4d; and Gordon road, Is 4d was accepted. The Mayor suggested that next meeting of council be held on December 15, at noon, when the ordinary meeting could be held and afterwards adjourned until 2.15 p.m. for the installation of mayor.—Cr Murdoch moved, and Cr M'Kenzie seconded—"That the moyor's suggestion be adopted."—Carried. The council then adjourned.
