FOOTBALL.

Tho foutkill match arrangod between the employes of the Bank of Now Zonland, Now Zealand Loan aud Mercantile Ageucy Company, and New Zealand Insurance Company, and a team representative) of tho National Bank, National Mortgage and Agency Company, and National Insurance Company, caruo off in tho presunco of a largo number of onlookors on the Northern ground yesterday aftornoon. Tho teanin woro oiiiatilutod im follows:—Nationals (Blues): (Hub, Cargill, Saltmarsh, Brown, Kaynbiid, Le Cren, Hooper, Todd, lv. Smith, J. Black, Maitland, Ronaldson, I'iuil, Gibson, Marsh. New Zealunda (Oi'lours): Arthur, R. Austin, ltovonport, .F. Kettle, Mrnclnns, Morrui, Reynold?, Stephens"*!, W. Stuumuh, 11. iStrouiicli, Todd, Wait, Weld.m, Webster, Fowler. Tho Colours wero colours in the truest sense of tho word. Hero a man with a yellow and red jersey, there a forward in white togs that reminded one of hard work done in the bay on warm summer afternoons; and yet another with stocking-tops hovering just above his ankles, decked out in the gaudy uniform of the Phoenix Cricket Club, a veritable coat of many colours—a motley crew indeed ! Some wero players and some wero not, and it was amusing on one occasion to see a player who had hitherto kept at a safe distance from football games pick up the ball, and all of a sudden, finding himself in a quandary with half-a-dozen Blues all around him, drop it on the ground, and, sneaking slowly out of the crash, leave it to the mercy of his opppnents. There were, however, some very good men in the crowd—past and present Interprovincial men, who could give a good account of themselves* ii_- time of danger; and altogether the game was anything but child's play. A good deal of interest was taken in the matdh, and several of tho managers of the companies and a fair sprinkling of ladies were present to watch the fortunes of their friends. The Colours won by a goal and a try to nothing. The Blues were several > times on the point of scoring, but, unluckily for them, there was always a man with a coat of a different colour ready to force down. Of the junior players, the young Stronachs, Marsh, and [Vluitland played capitally ; and among the old hands, Brown, Fowler, Cargill, Gibb, Stephenson, and Webster did some hard, honest work, Todd is a first-class kick, and his performance in kicking such a magnificent goal for the Colours was loudly applauded. K. Austin, Davenport, Le Cren, Black (whose kicking was good), and Wait also may be mentioned as playing lemarkably well. The match, which will now be an annual affair, has been the result of reviving football amongst the banks and insurance officosi and next Saturday a match has been arranged between tho Colonial Bank and the U. S. S. Company will be played. * Posteh 11.
