FANCY-DRESS BALL AT PORT CHALMERS.

The members of the Port Chalmers Quadrille Club gave their second annual fancy-dress ball on Tuesday evening in the Foresters'' Hall, when fully 200 persons were present. The interior was very tastefully decorated with a beautiful selection of flags, ferns, and flowers. The Btage was set apart for the use of the visitors who did not dance, and the large anteroom was devoted to the purposes'of refreshment, tbe tables being spread with » variety of dainties prepared by the ekil' ful bands of - Mr Dougali Taylor, who spared no pains to provide tempting dainties for the occasion. An orchestra was' constructed at the south end of the hall, and an excellent quadrille band, composed of Messrs WignalJ, De Maus, J. M'Kinnon, and Lees, discoursed appropriate music. The costumes were really good, and those of the ladies were .noticeable for the excellent taste displayed in them. _ The members of the committee were unremitting in their attention to the comfort of their numerous gueßts, and everything paaßed off in the most satisfactory manner. Mr Arthur M'Kinnon was M.0., and was very efficient in the discharge of his duties.
