: . (RIUTKB'S TELEGEAIIB.) 'London, September 17. (Received September 18, at 1.16 p.m) The cargo of frozen meat ex-Cuzco, from Sydney, arrived in good condition. The cargo of mutton by the ship Opawo, from the Bluff, arrived in good condition, but tho quality of the meat is inferior to previous shipments. The first portion of this cargo was sold to-day at from 6Jd to 6|d per pound. News iB to hand that the ship St. Leonards, bound to Wellington with emigrants/ foundered in the Channel after collision with another vessel. All her passengers and crew have been landed at Dartmouth. O'Donnell, who is charged with the murder of James Carey, haa arrived at Plymouth, and will shortly be placed on his trial. September 17 (evening). (Received September IS, at 8.10 p.m.)

The ill-fated ship St. Leonards, which foundered in the Channel off Dartmouth, was only a day out, having sailed on the 15th inst. The vessel with which she came into collision was the Cormorant. It is feared that the latter was severely injured, but nothing is definitely known regarding the extent of her injuries.

Consols are unchanged at 101. New Zealand securities as follows:—Five -per cent. 10-40 loan, 103 (ex div.); 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 106J j4J per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 101J; 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 101. The market rate of discount has fallen to 2| per cent., and the bank rate to 3£.

Pabis, September 17. (Received September 18, »t 1.15 p.m.) M. Challemel-Lacour, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has received his congi, and will be replaced in that position by M. Ferry, the President of the Council of Ministers, The removal of M. Challemel-Lacour is deemed to be an indication that the French Government desire to pursue a policy of peace.

Telegrams to hand from Pietermaritzburg state that in consequence of the attitude of Cetewayo towards the British residents in Zululand, and his expressed determination to continue fighting, Sir H. B. Bulwer, the Governor of Natal, has called upon him to surrender himself to the British authorities, otherwise a force of British troops will be despatched to arrest him.

(Ileceired September 18, at 8.10 p m.) Sailed, this afternoon: Union Company's steamship Kingarooma, for Bluff. Among the passengers by the MessageriesMaritimea steamship Saghalien, now in this port and homeward-bound for Marseilles, are tho Irish informers Hanlon and Kavanagh. The men are travelling under assumed names; but their identity has been completely established, and they will not be permitted to land.

The following horse 3 have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup':—Caractacus, Thorntopper, and Mountebank. (Kecoived September 19, at 1.10 a.m.) The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports of the local grain market as follows :—Shipping wheat 4s lOd to 4» lid, market quieter j malting barley 5a to 6s, market depressed ; New Zealand oata are in fair demand at 2s lid to 3s 2d for feeding, and 3a 2d to 3s 3d for milling sorts; New Zealand oats, under bond, 2s 2d to 2a 4d.

The Presbytery met ,to-day for the purpose of taking into consideration the charge of heresy against the Rev. Charles Strong.
