VISIT OF THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM.
An Australian team of cricketers who intend to visit England shortly, arrived at the Bluff on the 9fch inst., after a series of triumphs throughout the Australian Colonies. The team consists of C. Banuerman,
lA. Bannerman, T. Horan, Garratt,^Mmv: doch, Blackham, Spofforth, Gregory,'" Boyle, Bailey, and Kendall, At Invercargill they played a local twenty-two, consisting of Kingsland, Cowell, Murray, Stock, Kayswell, Morrison, Keade, Buchanan, Boas, Galbraithi Wenoy, Cross, Stead, Naab, Wells, Howard, Searle, Levy, Pickford, Smith, and Aahe. The match resulted in a victory for the Australians, who beat their opponents in one innings, with. 138 runs to spare. C. Bannerman scored 125 runs, and carried out his bat. The match between the Australians and the Otago Twenty-two, waa commenced- on. the Caledonian-Ground on the 12th instant. The^Obago team consisted.of. Messrs Douglas, Nivenj Cargilli'Paramor, -M'NeuV Dixon, Macfarlano, Nicholls, Spring, Rose, Fulton, Rhodes,; Austin, Morrison, llaskell, Sutcliffo, Millington, Fawcett, Glen, Moore, Everest, and Clarke. The Otago men made 124 runs ur their first innings, while when the stumps were drawn at 6 o'clock on the first day the Australians had made 53 for the loss of three wickets. On the second day tho Australians were all out in their first innings for 92 runs, .and the Otago men then went in and made 93; The Australians had to make 128 runs on the third day to win; but. owing to the heavy fall of rain on the third day play was not resumed, and the match was drawn.
