COMMERCIAL.

Daily Times Office, Wednesday evening. The amount of Customs Revenue received to-day on goods entered for consumption was as follows: -

Messrs Driver, Stkwart, and Co. report as follows for the week ending 23rd September:— Fat Cattle.—lso head were yarded to-day, the greater portion of which were much above the average quality, all of which' were disposed of to the trade at quite equal to last week's quotations for prime beef. Beat l&ullocks brought from£l3 to £16 1.0s; medium, £710s to £10. Cows; from £10 to £15 for very superior; ordinary. £5 10s to £7. Of the number yarded we sold 66 head on account of Messrs Thomson, M'Comb, Guinness, and others, the prices realised being equal to about 35s per 100 lbs for prime quality. Fat Calves.—None yarded. ■'■'■- Fat Sheep.—The supply forward to-day—viz., 1600 —would not in ordinary circumstances be excessive; tut, owing to the trade being well stocked by private purchases, only aboU 700 were disposed of. Of these also the greater portion were of fair quality. Crossbreds sold at 17s to 20s; merinos at 10s 6d. We quote prime mutton for forward delivery, say— cross-breds at 4d to 4£d : merino, 3id to 4d per lb. . ..; Store Cattle.—We note a brisk enquiry for store cattle of all descriptions, but more especially for grown bullocks and spayed cows, which are saleable at from £4 to £510s fur the former, and £3 to £4 10s for the latter.

Store Sheep.—The number offering at the present moment is very limited, and confined ehielly to old ewes and wethers, which are slow of sale. Good young sheep, however, either merino or eross-breds, are in good request, and readily saleable at our quotations, which are as follow : — Cross-breds, 4 and 6-tooth, 1- Js to 14s each; merino wethers, 2 4 and 6-tooth, Ss to O.s ; full-mouthed do, 7s to 7s 6d. We have sold 1100 half-breds and 1000 merinoes at quotations.

Wool.—There is little or nothing of interest to report in regard to this staple, unless it be that the iondon telegrams to hand down to sth inst., confirm to a great extent the advance in prices previously reported. In our local market no business has been done during the week. A few lots, of fellmongers' vools are on offer, but the prices obtainable fail to meet sellers' views.

Sheepskins.—There were very few butchers' skins forward for the usual sales this day, owing to the inclemency of the weather. We sold dry station skins at from Is Gd to 5s 4<l, according to qualit.y, and for green skins quote last week's rates as current market value.

Tallow.—A few casks inferior only wfre offered by us, which we sold at 2Gs 6d per cwt. The like advance in price in the Home market, coupled with the daily increasing demand for local consumption, is calculated to enhance the value of this article.

Hides—Were in good demand to-day, and fetched quite equal to last week's rates. We sold 50 light to medium weights at 10s to 17s Gd.

Grain.—Wheat continues in very slight request, and prices have a downward tendency. Prime samples of Oaraaru growth may be quoted at 4s 9d to ss; inferior and medium, nominally at 4s to 4s (id. Barley is also somewhat dull <4 sale, prime malting being worth about ss, while inferior and ordinary do not command over -Is to 4s Gd. Oats are in excellent demand, and apparently scarce. Milling oats are wanted for export at up to 4s Gd ; good feeding, for local consumption, at up to 4s 4d.
