The stock of wheat is getting low, ruid farmers are asking 5s in Christchurch. Oats and potatoes are scarce, and the local demand is good.

Invercahgitx, August 27th. To-day was observed as a public holiday on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the new Athenaeum building. The ceremony was performed by the local Lodge of Freemasons. There was a, large assemblage, and the proceedings passed off satisfactorily.
