The ketch Defiance arrived on Monday afternoon with a cargo of meats, tallow, <tc., from Kakanui, for shipment in the Wild Deer.
The h.B. Albion nailed yesterday afternoon lor Oamaru.
The 8.8. Beautiful Star was to sail in the evening for the same port. The 'passengers ex William Pavie, from Glasgow, wcru brought to Duncdin yesterday forenoon by the steamer Golden Age. We (Colonist) understand that MesHr» N. Edwards and Co. have purchased the wreck of the schooner Ocean Bird, with the intentiou of thoroughly refitting her, and have no doubt, when ready for sea, this fine model of a vessel will yet do much good service for her new owners.
The Portsmouth Times saya the turret ship fJlatton, intended for coast defence, behaved admirably on her pawmge from Sheer* ncBB to that port, although the weather was much rougher than the authorities had bargained for. The water swept backwards and forwards over her deck the whole of the trip, but Hhe woh remarkably steady, and both officers and men felt perfect confidence in her safety.
