DUNEDIN AND SUBURBS NORTH ELECTION.

The election of a r presentative for the district of Dunedin ani Suburbs North, iv the General Assembly, took place at the Court House, at noon on Saturday. T:iere were about 89 parsons pi-e<ent. Jons GiLiIKS, Esq., Sheriff, read the writ, dated Februiry 17th, and also the advertisement fixing the date of nomination. He briefly called upon any one who had a candidate to propose, to come forward. Mr Hesuy Howorth proposed John Larkins Cheese Richardson. He regretted that the Major was unavoidably absent, for several reasons; and more especially because, if present, he would have been ably to explain the line of policy he would pursue in the General Assembly. But he could vouch that Major Hichardson was ready and willing to stand as a candidate Ibr the otfii:e ; and he trusted that ths electors would agren with him, that His Honor was in every sense the fittest and best man to be their representative in the General Assembly. —(Applause.) Mr John Diuk seconded the nomination.

Mr J. t^. Wksii asked whether a person whose name was upon the general roll only, could nominate. The Sheuifp said he cou] i not. Such a person could be elected, but the proposer and secmder must be upon the district roll. The words were, " Every persou shall be proposed by a person duly qualified to vote at the election."

No other candidate being proposed, the Sheriff declared Major Richardson to be duly elected ; and the "proceedings terminated.
