THE FIRE AT CHERRY FARM.
With reference to the fire at Cherry Farm, of which a brief notice has already appeared in our columns, we arc enabled to publish tho following ollicial report:— Police Department, ; Wfukouaiti Station, 21st May, 1862. Sergeant Cobdcn reports, for the information of the Commissioner of Police, that at 4 a.m. this day, a large shod at Cherry Farm, containing a quantity of grain, machinery, &c, the property of John Jones, Esq., was discovered by one of the lodgers to be ou fire. Every assistance was immediately rendered by the workmen on the Farm, also by Muir, the Road Contractor, and the men under his employment, but without success, the fire having too firm a hold of the building when first discovered. The loss sustained is supposed will amount to thousands of pounds, but at present cannot be fully ascertained. Immediate steps are being taken by the Police to trace, if possible, the origin of the fire, but up to the present no reliable information is obtained.
