HIGH INCOME TAX.
Under the above title the issue of Ways and Means for 7th February contains an illuminating article, which in effect _ shows that the cost of Government in England at the present moment runs from twice.to ten times the cost in any other country. New Zealand is close, runuer-up. This estimate is' based on the income tax and super tax rates or special war income tax at pre-' sent .charged. The following table of i comparative charges which, has been compiled by Wavs and Means, together with the New Zealand charges, fully establishes the contention :-*■ Income-tax and super-tax payable on ■incomes of £2OOO and £SOOO in the following countries:
