' - The' Prime Minister replied to the Council's; letter endorsing the payment *of a boilUß to parents of all children of British parentage in the Dominion. Statutory authority was first necessary, and the introduction of a Bill would be considered for the next session of Parliament.—Received. Hon. E. P. Lee wrote that, after conference with the Minister of Public Works,, he was able to state that there Was no dearth of private engineers who could advise the Council quite 'as well as the Public Works Department. The Department's engineers were at present fully occupied. It seemed that\ the Council would have to securethe advice of ail engineer in private practicesReceived. Genge, applied for consent of transfer of lease of section 6, block 38, to Thos. Milne.—Granted. Mr P. C. Hjorring, on behalf of Messrs Joseph and Thomas Pemiskie, of Duntfoon, asked for transfer of part of section 1. block 11, Maerewhenua survey district, to Mr Ciias. Williamson. — Granted. The secretary of the 10th Regiment Band (Mr, W. F. Mackenzie) asked for the use of the Public Gardens on Sunday, May 2nd, for a sacred concert.— Granted. The Gas Manager reported that the cost of laying a gas main and service to Mr H. P. Hesketh's house in Tamar street would be £22. 18s.—The application was referred to the Gasworks Committee for report. . Mrs M. Bennett applied for screenings on the Wye street footpath.—Referred to the Works Committee. The secretary of the North Otago Rugby Sub-Union, Mr J. Young, applied for the use of Takaso Park for the season on Thursdays.—Granted on the usual conditions. Mr J. D. Forbes, secretary of the Oamaru Returned Soldiers' Association, applied for the free use of the Opera House on Sunday for a memorial service.^ —Granted.

The hon. sec. of the North Otago Golf Club, Mr F. W. Humphries, asked for a renewal of the Club's lease of reserve D on the same terms and conditions. —Dealt with in Committee reports. The Chief Health Officer, 'Dr. Valentine, asked for suggestions to amend the existing Health avoiding, duplication and confusion existing through the power held at present by both the Public Health and ' Municipal Corporations Acts. —Referred to the By-Laws Committee. Mr S. Hill asked for a hand-rail on the Chelm'er street footbridge.—Dealt with in Committee repdrts. A petition was received .from seventeen ratepayers of Eden street that the Inspector be asked to do his duty in the matter of stray stock in Eden street, and absolutely confirming previous statements of stock wandering. Councillor Deal said he had verified the fact that there was a great deal of stray stock in Eden street. Should the Council be willing to be defied? Councill Miller said the position had been bad, but the Inspector was endeavoring to cope with it. He moved that the Inspector impound all cattle found, astray an. the Borough and proses cute offenders. The Council could overlook the matter no longer. It must back up its Inspector. Councillor Deal seconded the motion, which was earned. Mr John Thomson wrote that the liability to keep the creek clean through, his property was not his but the Council's, as it was only since the reservoir had been constructed that insufficient water to flush the creek ran down it. He had purchased the section 50 years ago to secure the beautiful stream 'of clean water for domestic purposes, the only source for household water. —Received, the writer to be informed that the keeper of the reservoir has been instructed to frequently flush the creek. The secretary of the Waitaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board informed the Council that its contribution for the year was fixed at £l6B 15s. —Received. A domestic water supply was asked for by Mr K. Craig, Newborough.—Referred to Waterworks Committee. King George's Park was, upon the application of the Park Committee, closed to the general public for Thursdays from May Ist to September 30th, to enable a charge to be .made for--football matches, etc. ' —Committee Reports.— Finance —(1) Bank balances: General account dr £1434 3d, loan account dr £564 5s Id, temporary deposits dr £4079 lis 2d. Recommending for payment accounts amounting to £869 9s 6d. (2) Recommending tbat the, charwoman's wages be increased to £1 2s 6d per week. —The report was adopted. Works. —(1) Recomemnding that the T. and P. Milk Supply Co., Ltd., be required to improve the drainage (to the Engineer's satisfaction) from their cartdock in order to prevent an overflow on to the footpath. (2) The Engineer has been instructed to have a 'handrail placed on the bridge over the creek in [the vicinity of Mr S. Hill's property.— The report was adopted. \ Reserves.— Recommending that the North Otago Golf Club be granted the use of reserve D on the same conditions as previously.—The report was adopted. Gas. —The Committee cannot recommend, any rebate on Mrs Sutton's gas account. —The report was adopted. ■-■ - Order of work—(l) Asphalt and kerbing and channelling in TJre street; (2) asphalt in Harbor street; (3) asphalt in North street and Thames street fronting blocks 11. 12* 13, and 14; (4) asphalt in Reed street, fronting block 25.—Adopted.." . ,
