Mr Allen replied' that for soj»e time the Government has had under consideration the questions of essential industries and of industrial efficiency, as auectmg tl, e ~-hole of the Dominion, "in it was not intended to interfere in any way with the powers of the Military Service Boards in the matter of exemptions It the Boards' find cases of undue hardship, the Government Will endeavor to remove them. At the same time the Government wants to conserve the essential industries of the Dominion, and it will have to make arrangements to do-so. If it would be an, undue hardship to tafce men for miliary service, the undue hardship would have to be removed br regulation or Act
