The dairy farmers have contended' that their returns would be inadequate if the price were reduced, and. they v would be forced to start cheesemaking. A number of conferences with producers and retailers under the presidency of the Mayor of Wellington failed to produce any satisfactory result, and it is now stated by the Minister of Agriculture that the Board of Trade, having investigated, the proposed increase of the wholesale price to commence today, reports that the increase is not justifiable.*-' The Cabinet will consequently consider- immediate what steps shall be taken to check the exploitation.
