CHURCH NEWS AND NOTES.

DEVOTIONAL. WHAT HAVE AVE DONE TO-DAY P We shall do much in the years to come, But what have we done to-day ? We shall give our gold in a princely sum, . Bat what did we give to-day ? • We shall lift the heart and dry the tear, We shall plant a hope in tho place of fear, - We shall-speak the words of love and cheer; But what did we speak to-day? We shall be so kind in the after-a-while, Bat what have we been to-day ? We shall bring to each lonely life a smile, But what have we brought to-day ? Wo shall give, to truth a grander birth And to steadfast faith _a deeper worth, We shall feed the hungering souls-of earth; But whom have we fed to-day? We shall reap such joys in the by-and-bye, Bat whathave we sown to-day? We shaft build us mansions in the sky, But what have we built to-day? 'Tis sweet in idle dreams to bask, But here and now do we our task? Yes, this is the thing oar souls must ask: ■ What have we done to-day ?_ .—Nixon Waterman, in Christian En- . deavour World.

PRAYER.

We thank Thee, O Lord, that in all oar - weakness and felt want we can " 'draw . near to Thee. We thank Thee that Thou dost not even wait for our coming, for many of Thy mercies are showered upon us nndesinng, and, alas! often unthankful' and misusing them. Bat we draw near to Thee now, to ask "from Thee the things which even Thy ..love cannot'give to.nearts that do not desire. And we pray that Thou wonldst ... quicken in us all longings after the best ■ gifts, and wouldst make lis more fit to 'receive from Thine infinite fulness, and r nioro confident and peaceful in our pos- ■ session of Thine own gracious and best gifts, through" Jesus Christ our Lord. '.Amen. i
