CORONATION MEMORIAL.
The following further telegrams have passed between the Chairman of the late public meeting and the Hon. D. Buddo:—
"Thanks for telegram. Does your wire mean that if we expend the subsidy of £250 wholly on the pavilion we may expend the moneys subscribed by the public and Council on "formation of athletic park. Further, we understand that you will'faVorably: consider'an additional contribution on the Estimates towards the formation 01 athletic park. If so, how much? The total cost of the scheme is estimated at £I2OO.—R. Milligan."
To this the Minister has replied as follows:—
"I am unable to pledge, Parliament to any sum, hut will-recommend that a grant be made for recreation, park. Coronation subsidy, will be" given'for the pavilion, but the two sums together must not exceed that paid to other local authorities, namely, £250. Payment will be made as work proceeds, that is, when £IOO worth of works is done £SO will be paid."
