PALMERSTON NOTES.

The first football match of the season between the Palmerston and Waikouaiti Clubs was played at Waikouaiti on Saturday. The day was an ideal one for football, and consequently therewas a large attendance.' A fast and even game resulted in a draw, both teams scoring three ponats. Pagan was responsible for Palmerston's score with a fine goaL from a penalty, while Allcocks scored for the home team. The forwards ou both sides gave a good exhibition, but neither set of backs had any idea of combined play. The Palmerston Dramatic Club gave an entertainment at Waikouaiti on Wednesday last in aid of the Waikouaiti Lawn Tennis Club. The entertainment was preceded by a short concert programme, in which Miss Valentine (Waikouaiti), Mrs Smith, Miss Roulston and Mr F. Appleby (Palmerston) took isnrt. After a brief interval the Dramatic Company staged "Tlie Arabian Nights," and the representation of the comedy proceeded smoothly throughout. The funds of the Waikouaiti Chib should be much increased as a result of the visit of the local actors.
The annual meeting of the Palmertton Bowling Club was held in the Countll Chambers oh Saturday afternoon, when there was a fair attendance. The balance-sheet and report were read and approved, several members congratulating the Club on the favorable report. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr A. Kilgour; vice-presi-dent, Mr W. M. Tarlton; General Committee —Messrs W. Ross, Black, Lei'evre, J. Sloan, J., Pagan, M'Donald, and Crisp; Green Committee —Messrs Lefevre, Muir, Sloan, M'Donald, and Black; Social Committee Messrs M'Donald, J. Pagan, W. Ross, Moodie. Black, and W. B. Galloway. It. was resolved to extend the boundary fence with a view to extending the green inthe near future, the matter of planting the fence and material, etc., being left in the hands of the president and vicepresident. Mr D. Ross promised to plough the paddock which it is proposed to convert into part of the green, provided the preliminary arrangements were made. Mr Black agreed to attend to these. The by-laws as drawn up by the outgoing General Committee were approved. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr J. S. Miller for soil delivered to the Club for top-dressing purposes, and to Mr C. Crump for his valuable services as secretary..
