BAND CONTEST.

A dep'utatidii representing the South, Island JJands' Association waited on the < Mayor relative to. the band contest to ■ be held in this city in November next, : and asked for'the Mayor's sympathetic: interest in the cootestjand also asked if! he would use his influence to enlist the j sympathy of the .members of the .City j Gduifci! to ensure the success of tlie fix- 1 ■ture. Tlie speaker, said it was proposed to hold the contest oil the A. and P.; Association's grounds at Addington, } "and the contest, would' last about., a \ week. The deputation wished the j Mayor and City Councillors to interest] themselves in the matter, and call a ■ meeting of the public at which a Con-! test Committee would lie appointed. The Mayor Expressed his own personal' sympathy with the .proposal, and promised to bring the matter before the Council at its meeting; on Monday evening. • He believed_ that the Council would give the project its cordial support, aiidf would) endorse the suggestion that ah invitation he extended to the •Association to .hold the contest at Qhristchurch.
