WAIHAORUNGA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) —Settlers' Association. —

A meeting was held on Friday night last there being a moderate attendance. Mr W- Black was in the chair, and called upon Mr Kelclier to give an account of the visit of Mr Buddo to the district and the result of the deputation's application for the railway extension, etc. Mr Kelclier gave a veij clear account, which appeared m your columns. The result of the deputation has had one good effect at least, 111 that the road applied for has been granted. Mr Kelclier then moved a hearty vote of thanks to those gentlemen who so kindly lent their motor cars for the use of visitors and the press. This was carried unanimously, and the secretary, was instructed to write to tho following gentlemen conveying the thanks of the Association: Messrs Francis, S. Richards, —. Cray, John Black, F. J. White, A. Allan, &. K. Martin, and W. P. Borne. A vote of thanks was also tendered to the Hon. Geo. Jones, Mr Atwill, and the press for their personal help. Messrs W. Black and L. Kelclier were appointed to interview Mr Francis re the expected visit of tho Hon. R. M'Kenzie. A deputation (Messrs W. Black, L. Kelclier, W. Lane, F. Burson) was appointed to meet the Minister at Waimate and make all the necessary arrangements, and report as soon as possible. Accounts were passed for payment. Mr 0. M'Kee moved a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman, which was unanimously carried.

—Library.— The annual meeting was lield on Wednesday, Mr I. Hurst occupying the chair. There was only a small attendance, probably owing to an oversight in not advertising the meeting. The balance-sheet showed a credit with the Government subsidy of £6 lis. The election of committee resulted: —Mr J. C. Hurst (chairman), Mr J. C. Armstrong (secretary), J. Knight (librarian), Mrs Lane, and R. Meredith, junr. It was decided to hold another meeting on Wednesday, May 24th, when a selection of new books will be made to the value of the credit balance. A canvas of the district will be made to enrol new members, and a list of books will be obtained for the Committee to select from.
