RAILWAY INSPECTION.
CHARGES OF ESPIONAGE. (Peb Press Association.) Auckland, May 11. Mr T. Ronayne, General Manager of the New Zealand Railways, was asked by a, reporter to-day if, he had any remark ijo make concerning the! .alleg'a-. tions of ' espionage "which have " 'been made by railway servants against the Department. He stated that he knew nothing of any. such th.uig,'and could make .no, statement.,of a moiWparticnlar nitu're., .The Ra'iLyvay department' employed-;'inspectors to see that thb guards" and ticket , collectors ,did 'their work properly,- bu,t they "were all known, and there was , little difference between their employment and that" of t"tie • inspectors in the tram service. To call them spies was no more reasonable than to apply the same" term to the auditors who went round the railway stations to examine the books.
