MAJOR-GEXERAL GODLEY'R TOUR. (Per PitF.ss Association.) "Auckland, May 5. .The Commandant of the New Zealand. Defence Forces (Major-General Godley) returned from his North Auckland tour this afternoon, and left by the Main Trunk express this evening for Wellington. He will remain in the capital city for a few days, and then visit Inveroargill mid Southland, and subsequently New Plymouth and Hawke's Bay, before the time for registration expires on Juno 2. When he has completed these tonrs he will have paid flying visits to practically every district in the Dominion. Interviewed bv a Herald representative before his departure. General Godley stated that he was very well pleased with the progress he found being made everywhere with the registration, and the evident anxiety of everyone io register as soon as the details wore given of how :t was to be done and where the registration papers were to bo sen.:. He did not anticipate being able to make a start with the training o: the new men before ■August at the earliest. Asked \vhen the field batteries would he equipped with the new field guns.
