ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, January 20. An old woman named Eliza Thomas, 79' years of age, committed suicide by taking carbolic acid at her residence at Wakefield street to-day. Deceased had been ailing for some time, and was nearly blind. Sho had often expressed a wish to die. Wanganui, January 20. William Brauiford, aged 33 years, night watchman at Wanganui railway station, died this morning from the effects of a dose of strychnine. After working all night he returned home in the early morning and worked about the house for a couple of hours. His sister-in-law then heard a fall in his bedroom and found Brauiford on the floor. Ha held out his hand and said good-bye to her, and told a neighbor, who was called/in, that he had taken strychnine. He died before medical aid could reach him. No reason is known for the act.
